High-performance bonded magnets for dynamic applications

What is Injection Bonded SmFeN?

Injection bonded Samarium Iron Nitride (SmFeN) magnets combine the advantages of rare-earth magnetic strength with the processability of polymer-based molding. SmFeN offers a powerful alternative to bonded NdFeB with superior corrosion resistance and remarkable temperature stability up to 150°C.

These magnets are produced by compounding fine SmFeN powder with thermoplastic binder materials and injection molding the mixture into near-net shapes. The result is a dimensionally precise, high-performance magnet ideally suited for small, complex, or high-speed assemblies.

Advantages of SmFeN over Bonded NdFeB

  • Better oxidation resistance without the need for coating
  • More stable magnetic properties under thermal cycling
  • Lower risk of magnetic decay in humid or chemically aggressive environments
  • Excellent adhesion and compatibility with sensor assemblies, overmolding, and inserts

Application Areas for Injection Molded SmFeN

  • Automotive sensor systems (position, speed, angle)
  • Miniature motors and actuators
  • Encoders and resolver rings
  • Hybrid magnet systems with axial or radial magnetization
  • Consumer and industrial electronics with confined geometries
