Why Samarium Cobalt Magnets Stand Out

Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets are high-performance permanent magnets known for their exceptional thermal stability and corrosion resistance. Unlike NdFeB, they maintain their magnetic properties up to 350°C and are ideal for harsh environments including aerospace, automotive, and oil & gas.

Available in two major compositions—Sm1Co5 and Sm2Co17—these magnets offer a balance of magnetic strength and high-temperature capability. Sm2Co17 grades in particular deliver superior performance where NdFeB would degrade. Their resistance to demagnetization makes them the trusted choice for precision applications under load or elevated heat.

Corrosion Resistance Without Coating

SmCo magnets are naturally resistant to oxidation and chemical attack. This makes them suitable for uncoated use in dry and clean environments, reducing process complexity. Where needed, coatings like nickel or epoxy can be applied, but are often unnecessary—one of the reasons SmCo is favored in aerospace and medical applications.
